The Things We Ate: Monki Breakfast Club & Bistro

There are a few weekend traditions that really can't be beat. One of our favourites is indulging in some brunch. This is especially fun after a night out on the town when we have some rehashing to do with our girlfriends. On a Sunday morning we decided to try Monki Breakfast Club & Bistro. We both had heard some great things about it so it was time to find out what all the hype was about!

Monki is located at 1301 10th Ave SW, Calgary, Alberta.
The exterior is red brick and adds to the
overall unique vibe the restaurant itself has.
One thing about brunch in Calgary is that your chances of getting in right away into a restaurant are slim to none. So if you are one to get "hangry" you might want to pre-eat just a little. We got to Monki around 12:30 pm and were told that we would have to wait an hour to get in. Luckily they offer to call you when your table is ready and so we used the time to grab some coffee at Analog and hit up the shops on 17th Avenue.

The Things We Saw: Los Angeles, California

So the both of us are pretty random in the things we do. We also both suffer from what is commonly known as the "travel bug". People who suffer from this bug often are found checking Google flights for the next seat sale just to get away, even for a couple days. We stumbled upon a pretty great deal to Los Angeles with Air Canada's new economical airline called "Air Canada rouge". For those of you not concerned with first class entertainment and amenities, this airline is not a bad choice. Air Canada Rouge primarily flies from Toronto and Montreal to leisure destinations in Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico and the USA. Earlier this year, they expanded to Calgary and Vancouver with flights to LA and Las Vegas.

So, after finding a solid deal on a flight the next thing a travel bug will look for is cheap accommodation. Lucky for us one of our best friends lives 45 minutes out of Los Angeles in a suburb called Mont Clair. Now that the trip was planned we just had to count down the days until we went.

We won't go into massive detail about everything in our 3 day trip but here are two of our most memorable experiences.

The Things We Did

So let's start off with an introduction- this blog has not one...but two authors! We are Sheena Malhotra and Gajra Goyal. Two girls in their (low)-mid twenties living in Calgary, Alberta. Originally we are from Edmonton, Alberta (wooo go Oilers!!), and the move 300km south has proved to be an awesome experience for the both of us. We have day jobs but as two girls living in downtown we like to focus more on the fun things. With this blog, we just want to share it all- the things we eat, the things we learn, the things we try, and the things we see. Since both of us were little high schoolers (children, really) we have been blogging our adventures offline. Years later, these memoirs are 50 pages long and super entertaining for us to read. Now that we live in a new city and are constantly trying new things we thought we would take our blogging online. We are new at this so cut us some slack. One day we will be good. Promise :)

This picture is pretty accurate: we often accidentally dress
alike, and this was taken in Calgary as we were reminiscing
about being home supporting the Oilers in Edmonton!
